| Frequently Asked Questions |
| Why do I get square blocks in the picture on the TV screen when I am watching Freeview channels? |
| The Freeview signal may be poor. You can check that you live in an area where you can receive Freeview channels by entering your postcode on the website at www.freeview.co.uk, or by sending your postcode in a text message to ‘8 3 3 3 1’. (This service is available on all major UK mobile phone networks. Standard network charges apply.) |
| Can I watch the Freeview channels with only the RF (video) cable connected between the TV and the set-top box? |
| No. To watch Freeview channels you must use the TV Scart connection. The RF cable connection lets you watch your existing (non-digital) TV channels when the set-top box is turned off for example. |
| Can I watch pay per view channels with my Set Top Box? |
| No. You can only watch Freeview channels with your set-top box. |
| What type of aerial do I need? |
| A wideband rooftop
aerial is recommended for the best reception. Loft aerials are not recommended, as being inside means the signal strength is reduced. They are also more susceptible to interference from the other electrical equipment within your home. |
| What is a wideband aerial? |
| Wideband aerials receive
a wide range of frequencies. Some areas need to broadcast the digital
signals using a different range of frequencies from the current analogue
signals. So even if your existing aerial can get a signal, it might not
be able to see the full range of digital channels. Wideband aerials are capable of coping with any slight digital transmission changes. An analogue aerial might not be able to cope with the changes. |
| Will I have to replace my existing TV? |
| No. As long as your TV has a Scart socket you can use the Alba STB8 Quick2View set-top box with your TV. |
| Why do I need to re-tune my set-top box? |
| When digital switch over happens in your area, there are a few occasions that you will need to re-tune your set-top box so that you can receive your digital channels. Digital UK, the body leading digital TV switchover, will advertise when you will need to re-tune. |
| How do I re-tune my set-top box? |
